It was years in the making but Coach Morris Gullion brought Piketon to a share of the Scioto Valley Conference title in 1975.

"We're young and make a lot of mistakes, but we hope to iron them out by the end of the season," said Guillion in a Chillicothe Gazette article on Sept. 2, 1975, before the season started.

It was his sixth year leading Piketon and he came into the season with a 25-23 record.

Piketon had finished the 1974 season in second place in the SVC.

Guillion guided Piketon to an 8-2 overall record in 1975 with both losses coming at the end of the season. The 5-1 league record was enough for a share of first place -- the first time in 11 years that Piketon had won a title.

That year, Guillion was named Coach of the Year in SVC.

Other members of the Piketon team to be named to the All-SVC team that year were Randy Claytor, Mark Ramsey and Steve Robbins. Honorable mentions that year were Ladd Clemmons, Tim Mowery, Dave Mossbarger and Steve Spriggs.

With the regular season of high school football starting this week, the Gazette has been running photo galleries at ChillicotheGazette.com of local teams. We have already featured Adena, Unioto, Paint Valley, Waverly, Huntington and Westfall.
