CHILLICOTHE — Suffer a sprain, tear, or other common orthopedic-related injury and unsure whether the emergency room or an urgent care is the best place to go?

There’s now a new option — Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute Express Clinic — created specifically to provide patients suffering from common orthopedic-related injuries with fast access to specialized care targeting those injuries.

“It’s express care created with the patient in mind,” said sports medicine physician Clinton Hartz, MD. “Patients will have access to the same fellowship-trained sports medicine physicians they would if they were referred to Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute from somewhere else, but now they can just walk in.

“Once in, if patients need help for an issue that’s more long-term, we can connect them with a surgeon or other specialist more quickly than getting a referral.”

Care through the clinic will be available for such things as broken bones; sprains and strains; injured, painful or swollen joints; sports-related injuries and concussions; acute back and neck pain; finger dislocations; and other bone, joint, or muscle injuries.

The express clinic will operate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute on the Adena Regional Medical Center campus in Chillicothe.

Availability of the new service provides several advantages to patients, not the least of which is getting more rapid access to the broader range of orthopedic services and physicians housed within the same building.

“For instance, if somebody comes in with a bad wrist fracture, we can get them with our hand specialists quickly, have their x-rays taken care of, and get their treatment started sooner — all under one roof,” Dr. Hartz said. “That process is the same for other types of injuries as well, even those that may need surgery. It’s all about creating an environment that is more efficient and convenient for the patient.”
