    Matters of Graves Importance: Fourth of July packed with things to do

    Happy Fourth of July week Chillicothe! Check out these upcoming events to add even more sparks to your holiday. Be safe my friends.

    Thursday

    Nothing beats a good ‘ole fish fry and the Harrison Township Fire & Rescue Department and Association’s annual one will start at Walnut Creek Campground and Resorts at 11 a.m. Stop by early before they sell out. Danbarry Cinemas Free Summer Movies Series on this holiday is Wonka and it begins at 10 a.m. Doors will open one hour before showtime and the concession stand will be open. No tickets are needed. Seats are limited and not guaranteed so arrive early. No outside food or drink permitted.

    It is Military Appreciation Night at Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre sponsored by the Tecumseh Alumni Association. All veterans and active military will be admitted for free along with one guest. Free military tickets are available by calling the box office at 866-775-0700, or by reserving through Vettixx. Valid ID will be required at the time of pick up. The Tecumseh Alumni Association will be holding a cookout for veterans prior to the event, beginning at 6 p.m. The cookout is free to all veterans and active military and admittance will be granted with your ticket for the evening show.

    City fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m. and along with them, the Chillicothe City Pool is hosting a Fourth bash from 7 to 10 p.m. featuring DJ Hazel. A $15 ticket includes admission and refreshments. To purchase, contact Parks & Rec at 740-772-5626. Tickets are limited in quantity. The Chillicothe Trolley will also run its downtown route from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Friday

    DJ Travis mixes it up for you at the Cozy Inn Bar & Grill from 10:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. The Basement Collective is an eclectic rock band playing originals and covers that span over the decades. Join them in the bar at Shawnee Lanes from 7 to 10 p.m. Donavon Tolle returns to the Old Capitol Brewing stage at 7 p.m. Donavon plays a wide variety of tunes from Joe Walsh to Foo Fighters and his new EP, Reflection, was also recently released.

    Saturday

    Comedy is happening at Fifty West Brewing Company tonight at 8 p.m. with Rob Wilfong and Aric Grooms. I will be your host. This show is 21 and up and there is no cover, thanks to Fifty for picking up the show. Thicc Bois take over the taproom at Old Capitol Brewing at 7 p.m. OCB will also feature Side Chick Waffles food truck out front on Paint Street from noon to 9 p.m.

    Sunday

    Hazel's Roadshow, featuring DJ Hazel, brings gospel and contemporary Christian music from 4 to 8 p.m. (weather permitting) to Yoctangee Park. This entertainment is free and open to the public. Chillicothe Big Band, a local 18 piece jazz band, will take the outdoor stage at Austin Mill Brewing Company from 4 to 7 p.m. CBB plays swing, latin, rock, jazz, and all sorts of fun jazz band tunes. Stop by and check them and the new brewery out.

    Looking ahead

    Barn on Blain Comedy returns on July 13. Join us for headliner Mike Fields featuring Leyla Ingalls and Niki Shreves. Hosted by me, this event is BYOB. Up In Smoke food truck will be on location for your dining needs and will begin serving at 7 p.m. The show is 21 and up. Tickets are on Eventbrite and can be located by searching LoriG Comedy. Tables of 8 and single tickets are being offered. Don’t miss the second show of the Barn on Blain Summer Comedy Series.
