CHILLICOTHE— The Chillicothe Civic Theatre is getting ready to take a radical trip through time as they take it back to the 80s with their upcoming jukebox musical performance of "Back to the 80s."

"Back to the 80s" is a performance that tells the story of a senior class as told by a now-grown student as he remembers the Rubik's cubes, hair spray and more of his youth. It features a variety of popular songs from the decade.

Director Daniel Barnes said the rehearsals have been fun as the cast becomes friends and they all enjoy the props from the 80s like chunky cell phones, a large-backed TV and more. When it comes to fashion, like poofy dresses and fanny packs, he said it helps that fashion is cyclical since some items were already in the closet of cast members and the rest were able to be found at thrift shops.

"The kids are having such a blast with it," said Barnes.

As the production is put on by the youth theatre the cast, and even the Barnes, don't remember the 80s as they weren't born yet. Cast members say they have gotten a lot of inspiration from their parents and the internet.

Two of the main characters, played by Brooklyn Burns and Zavier Wallace, said they had a lot of fun during this production. Both are excited for crowds to see the performance, especially the Believe It or Not scene.

Back to the 80s will be performed from July 25 to July 28 at the Civic Theatre, tickets are available online now.
