Langley Wildthings swimmer earns sportsmanship award
Tessa Jones of the Langley Wildthings was a scholarship recipient of the Northern Virginia Swimming League’s President’s Award for the 2024 summer season. She received $1,500. The annual award has been given since 1994. Jones has been a member of the Wildthings since age 5, where she has been a winner of multiple races the last number of years. She holds various team records and has qualified for the season-ending NVSL individual all-star meet more than a handful of times.

Fairfax County set to vote on new data center regulations
FAIRFAX, Va. (7News) — The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is set to vote on updated standards for data centers at a public hearing on Tuesday. The zoning ordinance would, among other things, require data centers to be set back at least 200 feet from residential areas, set building size standards and require noise studies to be conducted.

$8 Million Yacht Capsizes Near Annapolis
On Saturday, a 122-foot yacht capsized on Maryland's Rhode River, forcing the crew to abandon ship. At about 1230 hours on Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call from the 2010-built yacht Lovebug. The vessel was located near the mouth of the Rhode River, a small tidal estuary about eight nautical miles south of Annapolis. It was listing dangerously to starboard. The Coast Guard and Maryland Natural Resources Police dispatched response assets, and the yacht's crew safely abandoned ship with the help of a good Samaritan vessel. By late afternoon, the yacht was listing about 70 degrees and appeared to be resting on the bottom on its starboard side.
