Port Huron to Mackinac Race comes to an end
Sailboats are crossing the finish line up at Mackinac Island as the 100th Bayview Mackinac Race begins to wind down. The race got off to a slow start, being delayed nearly two hours Saturday due to lack of wind on lower Lake Huron. Wind conditions changed later in the day, giving a boost to some of the larger and faster boats in the race. The first to cross the finish line was Wizard in Class A shortly after 1pm Sunday. The leader for much of the race was Maverick, who also won the Chicago to Mackinac Race, but had to withdraw due to a mast failure. As of Monday morning, much of the fleet was in a line between Mackinac Island and Rogers City. The remaining boats are expected to finish Monday afternoon.

Mount Clemens, MI – The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is reporting a surge in dangerous car surfing incidents, linked to a viral social media challenge. This reckless activity involves individuals riding on the exterior of moving vehicles, posing severe injury risks. Recently, MCSO responded to three such incidents involving juveniles in New Haven, Shelby Township, and Romeo. The injured parties were hospitalized, and drivers face serious charges. The start of the Bayview Mackinac race, the 100th consecutive running of the race up Lake Huron from Port Huron to Mackinac Island on Saturday, July 20, 2024, was delayed a bit by lack of wind, but what was scheduled to be a record number of participants — 332 boats, from 17 different states, were scheduled to depart from the starting line in southern Lake Huron, breaking the record of 315 from 1985 — headed off to the finish line between Mackinac and Round islands.

Chesterfield Twp. police looking for suicidal teen who ran from them
Chesterfield Township police spent much of Monday searching the community as they look for a missing juvenile who may be suicidal. Investigators say Christopher Nanovski, 15, last seen in the area of 23 Mile Road and DW Seaton Drive. The teen was described as being “out of control,” according to a 911 caller.
