CHARGES FILED AGAINST MAN IN UMN THREAT
(Watson, MN) — A man accused of making threats that forced the University of Minnesota and several other schools into lockdown is officially charged. Joseph Mark Rongstad surrendered to law enforcement after a standoff at a home in Chippewa County earlier this month, after he allegedly posted online that he was headed to the U of M to “shoot kids”, saying in one message that it would only take him 2-and-a-half hours to get there. He was charged today with several felonies. Rongstad is being held on a $1 million bond.
Man from western Minnesota is sentenced after making threats against U of M
(Watson, MN)--The man who made online threats against the University of Minnesota back in January of this year has been sentenced. Officials say that Joseph Mark Rongstad, 42, of Watson, has been sentenced in Chippewa County District Court to 21 months of prison. He was given 224 days credit for time already served. Rongstad pleaded guilty to one count for felony threats of violence.
