CHIPPEWA FALLS — The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office has identified the woman who collapsed in the jail July 4 and later died at an area hospital as 41-year-old Shauna I. Dommer of Augusta. CHIPPEWA FALLS — A woman who collapsed in the Chippewa County Jail last week has now been declared brain dead. Chippewa County Coroner Ron Patten told the Leader-Telegram on Friday that the woman was declared brain dead at an area hospital either late Thursday night or Friday morning. Tornado warning expires west of Twin Cities Monday as storms roll across MinnesotW
MINNEAPOLIS — Brace for more rain and storms on Monday in parts of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.A tornado warning for Kanidyohi, Renville and Chippewa counties has expired. The National Weather Service said radar-indicated rotation prompted the warning. A few storms will roll over southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Monday afternoon, with a low severe threat for wind and hail.During the dry time on Monday, we'll see a mix of sun and clouds. It'll be a hot and humid day with highs in the mid-80s. High pressure and cooler temperatures will move in for the remainder of the week, with some really nice days coming our way with highs in the 70s, low humidity and sunshine.Outside of some passing showers on Tuesday, it appears that we stay dry for the next few days. We'll return to the 80s this weekend.Weekend storms brought large hail and strong winds to parts of the state, leading to downed trees, power outages and other types of storm damage.

Altoona man sentenced to prison in drug overdose death case
An Altoona man will serve a 5½-year prison sentence after he was convicted of providing drugs to a person in June 2022 who later died of an overdose. Christopher Alejo, 27, 150 N. 10th St. W., pleaded guilty recently in Chippewa County Court to first-degree homicide by delivery of drugs. Charges of manufacturing and delivery of marijuana and maintaining a drug trafficking place were read-in and dismissed.
