Chippewa Falls apartment complex deemed 'unfit for human occupancy and use'

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- An apartment complex in Chippewa Falls has been deemed unfit for human occupancy or use.

This is following an inspection report filed Tuesday from the City of Chippewa Falls after residents of the Romeis Millstream on 509 High Street were asked to vacate due to unsafe conditions caused by structural damage.

"The observed displacement and distress of the existing structure is an immediate and ongoing safety concern for occupants anywhere in the interior of the facility, and people and property in the surrounding exterior," the report reads.

An engineering firm believes the distress in the structure may be from vertical movement due to soil settlement underneath.

The building will be placarded as "unfit for human occupancy or use" until repairs have been completed and approved.

The apartment houses seniors and people living with disabilities.
