Chippewa Falls ice cream shop celebrates 80 years

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis (WKBT)-- "I started coming to Olson's ever since I can remember. my grandma brought me, my parents brought me," Jeremy Hunt recalls.

Now he owns it. Hunt and his family bought Olson's Ice Cream back in 2007.

"My parents were actually involved with a little hotel restaurant business and my dad had my uncle go down and see if we can buy Olson's Ice Cream," he said.

Hunt was one of the first people to work there.

"It's one of those things when people think about Chippewa Falls, they think of Irvine Park, they think of Leinenkugel's and there's Olson's Ice Cream," he explained. When it was presented, it almost doesn't seem like it was going to be real."

Although the Olson's no longer own it, the shop is still scooping strong and celebrating 80 years in Chippewa Falls.

"They created such a unique quality ice cream. Everything's created in house. It's local. We're able to create everything in house, artisan craft, local small batches in a high quality," Hunt said.

Every day, generations of customers pop in for a treat. For 15 years Erin Ellis has been stopping by during her annual camping trip. Every year, she looks forward to it.

"It's probably the best ice cream I've had anywhere to be honest," Ellis said.

Olson's has also been through some changes throughout the years

"When we purchased it from the Olson family in 2007, we really only had this one shop. We've expanded to grocery stores, Irvine Park. We have a satellite location. We have a second location that's in Eau Claire."

Hunts says the family plans to continue expanding the business. They would like to open another location in Eau Claire and one in Menominee.
