CHISHOLM—The Chisholm Fire Department responded to back to back outdoor fires this past Monday in Chisholm.

The first call involved a trash can fire and had been mostly extinguished by a bystander with a portable fire extinguisher, according to a post on the CFD Facebook page. Upon arrival, several aerosol cans were observed by fire fighters, and crews used a hose line to cool down the remnants.

The second fire is attributed to a gas grill on the deck of a home.

“Fire was venting out of the grill, and threatened to extend to the wood deck,” it states in a post by the CFD. The fire was extinguished by an officer with the Chisholm Police Department, using a portable fire extinguisher.

The CFD offers the following reminders to the public.

    • Properly dispose of hazardous and/or flammable materials. These items should not be put in household trash cans.

    • Keep outdoor cooking appliances away from flammable materials, including structures and natural materials.

    • Know where your fire extinguisher is. If you don’t have one, consider adding one to your shopping list.

    For all emergencies dial 911.
