CHISHOLM—Starting this fall the cost of joining athletics and activities is increasing for students in the Chisholm School District.

“These rates will put us more in line with schools around us,” Chisholm School District Athletic Director Travis Vake wrote in a memo to the school board.

Chisholm School Superintendent Mark Morrison, via email on Tuesday said the increase is the first time in at least 11 years.

The increase was approved by the school board unanimously this past Monday. It’s estimated to bring in an additional $7,000, and will help offset increasing costs, according to Vake.

Based on anticipated participation numbers, the district is looking at hiring an additional coach for volleyball and potentially track, he noted.

Athletics are increasing by $30, and will be $100 for grades four through eight and $120 for grades nine through 12.

Fine arts fees for grades seven through 12 are going up by $10 and are $50. Drama, One Act, Speech, Visual Arts/Mock Trial.

The family cap for athletics increased by $50 and is now $400.

A proposed new fee for bowling and figure skating lettering was removed.

The board approved paying half of the fee for students with a free or reduced lunch application.

Free and reduced athletics are $50 for fourth through eighth grade, and $60 for ninth through 12th grade.

Fine arts free and reduced lunch are $25.
