    Doc 'Moonlight' Graham Days fun ahead

    CHISHOLM—The Chisholm Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its annual Doc ‘Moonlight’ Graham Days Festival.

    Festivities begin Wednesday, July 31 and continue through Sunday, Aug. 4.

    Live music, bocce competitions and more can be found throughout the schedule of events.

    The Chisholm Senior Citizen Center is hosting its “Last Man Standing” open house serving up coffee and goodies, beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday. There’s also a historic Chisholm photo display at the center for all to view.

    There’s an opportunity to have your voice heard at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at a community information session pertaining to the Redhead Mountain Bike Park, being held at Chisholm City Hall.

    A benefit for the Chisholm Chamber called Purses and Pistols Bingo is at 6 p.m. July 31, at Valentini’s Supper Club. Participants under 18 can play, but they are only eligible to win a purse. Proceeds help fund Chamber activities in the community.

    If you want to learn more about the real life physician behind the legend of Doc “Moonlight” Graham, Minnesota Discovery Center is showing a documentary called “The Real Moonlight Graham, A Life Well Lived. The documentary is being shown on the hour from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the MDC theater. Regular admission rates apply from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; admission is free from 3 to 8 p.m.

    Minnesota Discovery Center is hosting spinning and weaving demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. Regular admission rates apply.

    From 6 to 9 p.m. Friday is the Doc “Moonlight” Graham car cruise is on Lake Street.

    There’s an opportunity to get in a morning workout at the 30 West sunrise group hike 8 a.m. Saturday at the Redhead Mountain Bike Park. The roughly 2.5 mile hike is led by Jennifer Gigliotti and Kari Kilen, and includes stops for photos and water breaks. Participants are to meet up at the trailhead near Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm.

    A highlight of Doc “Moonlight” Graham Days, the parade is at noon Saturday, Aug. 3, on Lake Street in Chisholm.

    Chisholm Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shannon Kishel-Roche said there are some new entries for this year’s parade, including some businesses with ties to Chisholm from outside the community.

    “The parade is kind of on track to be similar to past years,” Kishel-Roche said, noting with 2024 being an election year, there are quite a few political entries as well.

    In order to have a parade that “makes sense,” the chamber is asking entrants to sign up in advance.

    “Sign up ahead of time so we can determine the order, so we know what to look for: floats, walkers, animals, playing music or not,” Kishel-Roche said.

    From 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday is a pie social at Faith Lutheran Church. Proceeds benefit the United Way of Northeastern Minnesota Buddy Backpack program to provide snacks for school-age children on weekends and days off school.

    Chisholm Kiwanis Club is hosting an ice cream social at Kiwanis Park at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

    Following the parade, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, is family fun called “Bouncin’ Around Town” at Kiwanis Park. The activities are sponsored by the Chamber Activities Committee along with community partner businesses.

    The Doc Graham Bean Bag Tournament follows the parade on Saturday, at Jim’s. Cost is $10 per person, bring your partner. Sign up after the parade, or by calling Adam at 218-966-0460.

    Chisholm High School classes of 1976, 1984, 2002 and 2004 have scheduled reunions to coincide with Doc Graham Days. Individual classes are responsible for their own reunions.
