    Jack Howard Williams, Sr., 80, of 2770 Mt. Tabor Road, died Monday, April 29, 2024, in his home. Mr. Williams was born in Chowan County on July 14, 1943, and was one of 13 children born to the late Joel C. and Leora Smith Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings and spouses, Beulah W. Harrell (Carey), Ailine W. Foutch (Russell), Lois W. Harris (Wilbur), Helen W. Forehand (Tom), Calvin Williams (Norma), Ruby W. Webb (J.W.), Distine Williams, Mary W. Elliott (Hubert), Thomas Williams (Jean), Ruth W. Holton (Herbert), and Melvin Williams (Esther). Retired as a tugboat captain in the towing industry after 30 years of employment, he had worked with Furlough Towing Company and later, Dann Marine Towing. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Original Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, camping, and being with his family, especially his grandchildren! Surviving is his wife of over 60 years, Brenda Spruill Williams; two daughters, Lisa Williams Biggs (Tim) of Creswell and Amy Williams Berkey (Jason) of Bolivar, PA; two sons, Jack Howard Williams, Jr. (Wendy) of Washington and Shawn C. Williams (Carrie) of Smithfield; a sister, Hazel W. Black (Bill) of Edenton; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many, many, nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. A memorial service was held Thursday, May 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and was conducted by the Revs. Jay Rivenbark and David Phelps.
