ROPER — One Chowan County man was killed and two other county residents injured in a shooting incident at a house party in Roper early Sunday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased Chowan man on Facebook Monday as Verrick Kadeem Parks and said the two injured men were Chowan residents Daniel Hurdle and Tyreek Welch.

According to the Facebook post, Washington deputies responded to a shots-fired report in the 12200 block of N.C. Highway 32 North about 4 a.m. Sunday. The initial report was that multiple people had been struck by gunfire.

When deputies arrived, they found Parks had been shot, that Hurdle had been struck by gunfire in the arm and foot, and that Welch had been hit by gunfire in the foot. Deputies attempted lifesaving measures on Parks but were unsuccessful “due to the type of wounds he received,” the post reads.

A fourth man, Jaquori Wilson of Bertie County, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the incident and is currently listed in critical condition at a medical facility, the post states.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting. The Washington Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information about the incident to contact its office at 252-793-4141 or the SBI at (919) 664-0086.
