The line is drawn in the sand. True crime fans debate the differences between Gypsy Rose Blanchard's and Lyle and Erik Menendez's sentences. Both crimes ended the lives of their abusers, yet one is hailed a hero, and the other is dubbed a cold-blooded murderer.
Blanchard suffered unimaginable abuse growing up. Her mother, DeeDee Blanchard, forced her to have multiple surgeries despite being a relatively healthy child. Gypsy claims she believed she was dying, but her medical records show something different.
It was all a scam. Her mother used Blanchard for charity fraud. She scammed thousands of dollars from her community. She used her daughter's illness to gain sympathy and financially support the household.
Gypsy finally had enough and convinced her online boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, to stab her mother. Blanchard planned the murder, down to buying the knife. Godejohn refused the plan for over a year. He begged her just to leave, pointing out she was nearly 24. But Gypsy had other plans.
Eventually, Nick agreed. He stabbed DeeDee Blanchard 17 times, ending her life. Days after the crime, Winconsin Police arrested Nick and Gypsy. After Blanchard learned the prosecutor could ask for the death penalty, she claimed she was a victim of horrific medical abuse.
Blanchard's plan worked. In 2016, she received a sentence of 10 years, while Nick received a life with no parole sentence in 2019. Gypsy served eight years, earning parole in December.
The public rallied around Gypsy after her release. They hailed her a hero for protecting herself. Social media believed the killing was justified and hoped she would finally find happiness.
Lyle and Erik Menendez killed their parents in 1989. They suffered unimaginable abuse, dating back to the age of six. After two trials, the jury convicted them of first-degree murder, receiving a life with no parole sentence.
Menendez's attorney pointed out their abuse. She explained the abuse in great detail. But no one believed them. They had proof, but no one believed it. The prosecution painted them as entitled, claiming their motive was money.
Over the years, many have called the brothers cold-blooded murderers and money-hungry. They discounted their abuse. Many flat-out deny it ever happened.
On September 19, Netflix releasedMonster: The Lyle & Erik Mendez Story, bringing new interest into their complicated case. However, social media is yet again divided on the case.
While some believe they served enough time for the crime, others think they should be on death row. Very few people believe their abuse story.
One issue many have trouble with in their case is how much money they spent in the months after their parents' death. They allegedly spent $700K in six months. However, Menendez's aunt said that wasn't unusual. They were wealthy, and Kitty and Jose Menendez were generous with their sons.
When you look at the facts of the case, they are similar. Both cases killed their abuser. They both could have left the home as they were adults. The only difference is Gypsy is a hero for her crime, and the Menendez brothers are vilified.

Riveras paid to help them to kill Àngel Alexander Pelayo, they attacked him envious of his beauty, prosperity, and beautiful family life, for their lives were destroyed. Josè Guadalupe Salazar Morales, and Verónica, and all the involved need to pay for tgat crime.
