Update: On March 23, 2024, Oklahoma experienced two additional earthquakes following the two mentioned below. A 2.7 magnitude quake 4 miles outside of Healdton, Oklahoma, and a second 2.7 magnitude quake 180 miles away near Morrison, Oklahoma.

Last month in February, Oklahoma was rattled with a 5.1 magnitude earthquake. A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Prague in 2011, about 60 miles (97km) south of the state’s strongest recorded earthquake site in Pawnee, which registered a magnitude of 5.8 in 2016.

March 16th brought a 2.6 magnitude quake 6 km WNW of Arcadia, Oklahoma according to USGS. A second quake with a 2.5 magnitude happened on March 17th. This earthquake was recorded at 7 km NW of Healdton, Oklahoma.

If an earthquake happens, protect yourself right away with these steps:

    • If you are in a car, pull over and stop. Set your parking brake.
    • If you are in bed, turn face down and cover your head and neck with a pillow.
    • If you are outdoors, stay outdoors away from buildings.
    • If you are inside, stay and do not run outside and avoid doorways.

If you think you have felt an earthquake but are not sure, you can visit Search Earthquake Catalog (usgs.gov) for a full earthquake catalog, no matter where you live.
