Victim identified in Herrin murder investigation
HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – Illinois State Police have identified the victim in a murder investigation in Herrin. 58 year old Virginia Melton of Herrin was identified as part of the investigation. Melton was located with multiple gunshot wounds at a residence in the 3100 block of Weaver Road Saturday July 13.

Prysmian, the world’s largest cable manufacturer, took over the Du Quoin plant from General Cable in 2018. Now, the company is making a major investment in Du Quoin, to the tune of $63.8 million to expand production, add employees, and ensure the plant’s future in Southern Illinois.

A man suspected of Home Invasion and attacking two residents in Carrier Mills, is now in custody. Police in Carrier Mills and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office participated in a joint detail that led to the arrest of 24 year old Tyrese Isbell. He was taken into custody near Elkville.
