Bring on the Bison, Rutgers Football Ready for 2024

Piscataway, NJ (Rutgers Football App) - The climb back out of the ashes has not been an easy one for the Rutgers Football program. Thankfully the Scarlet Knights has someone who knows how to navigate the waters on the banks of the ole' Raritan in Head Football Coach Greg Schiano. For so long Rutgers football has been the underdog, this is no longer the case. Sports shows such as ESPN now praise the program as the nation's darkhorse. How will Rutgers handle the praise is the question that will need to be answered. For Schiano it's simple, "chop the moment".

That moment has arrived in the form of the 2024 College football season for the Scarlet Knights and the Bison is on the chopping block for the season opener. Rutgers will take on the Howard of Washington, DC at SHI Stadium on Thursday night August 29, 2024 with a 6pm ET kickoff. Youth football will be celebrated throughout the day as youth teams from across the state will be recognized at halftime, and will be treated to post game fireworks.

The Scarlet Knights have not lost a season-opener since head football coach Greg Schiano has been back on the banks for Schiano 2.0. Three of the home openers have come against Power 4 opponents with Michigan State in 2020, Boston College in 2022 and against Northwestern last season in 2023.

"You are going to see some new faces on thursday night" said Schiano at the weekly press conference on monday at the Hale Center "we are a little banged up from camp, its been really hot and the guys have done a great job adjusting " added Schiano. The weather forecast calls for 75 degrees at kickoff. Much different than last years 12 noon opener against Northwestern where the temperatures soared over 100 degrees. Which I may add, the Rutgers athletic training and strength staff did an amazing job preparing the team for the extreme heat. Players were well hydrated and were able to overcome the extreme heat and endure the game with no muscle cramps against the Wildcats.

Most fans are excited to see new Rutgers quarterback Athan Kalaikmanis, who transferred from Minnesota to be with reunited with offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca. He is surrounded by a deep and talented wide receiver group that should add another dimension to the Rutgers offense in 2024. The Defense was dealt a huge blow during training camp with a season ending injury to senior linebacker Mohamed Toure. The new faces that Schiano has talked about will have their opportunity to step up and be seen tonight in Piscatway, New Jersey as the 2024 campain begins.
