    Rookie Wells leads Yankees to 6-3 win over the Cardinals

    Bronx, NY (New York Yankees App) - Rookie catcher Austin Wells hit two home-runs to lead the Yankess over the Cardinals 6-3 at Yankee stadium on a gorgeous summer night on Friday, August 30, 2024.

    Wells, who had his first game with two home-runs, has been producing for the Yankees all season long. His numbers in 93 games has been amazing with .256/.348/.444 with 12 HRs.


    Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman, pitched seven full innings, which is the longest he has gone since May 31st. Stroman ended the night giving up nine hits and two earned runs.

    Juan Soto had a solid night at the plate going 2-for-4 and in the field. In the top of the fifth, Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson hit a single to right field and got greedy and attempted to turn his single into a double. After playing the ball, Soto threw the ball to Volpe at second, where the 23-years old tagged out Burleson, who came off the bag as he slid into second.

    The second game of the series will be on Saturday at the Stadium at 1pm.
