Bronx, NY (New York Yankees App) - An explosive eigth inning by the Yankees led by a three-run double by Giancarlo Stanton was not enough for the win as the Yankees fell to the Cardinals 6-5 in game two of the series. The Yankees showed some tenacity, especially with Stanton's cluch double and Volpe's pivitol performance. However, their inability to cash in on earlier opportunities and pitching struggles in the sixth inning, proved too costly.

The Yankees continued to fight until the last out in the bottom of the ninth after the Cardinals went down quietly with Herrera, Jordan Walker, and Victor Scott being retired in order by Luke Weaver. Oswaldo Cabrera grounded out, and Gleybor Torres struck out, but Juan Soto doubled to prolong the game. Of course the Cardinals intentionally walked Aaron Judge, leaving the game to Austin Wells.

Wells fought hard against the fire ball closer Ryan Helsley, working the count to 3-2. With Yankee stadium on its feet, Helsley unleashed a slider from hell, fanning Wells and ending the game with the winning run on base.

Moving forward thee rope for the playoffs continues to tighten as every remaining game is crucial in their pursuit of the postseason. The Yankees will face the Cardinals in the final game of the three game series at 1:35 pm ET at the stadium on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
