Starbucks Working on New Location in Chula Vista

The fast-growing Seattle-based coffee chain Starbucks is preparing to unveil plans for a new location in Chula Vista at 750 Main St.

The company recently submitted documentation to the city of San Diego to build and open a brand new location alongside the Otay River. The new Starbucks will sit near several car dealerships in the area and down the street from the City of Chula Vista Public Works Center. This location has no exact timeline for its opening, considering the application is still being reviewed. However, considering its new construction, the new Starbucks will likely open in the second half of the year .

The new location could potentially become one of the company’s new ‘Greener Stores’ models, which is more sustainable and innovative than other standard sites. Last month, Starbucks announced that it aims to certify 10,000 Greener Stores globally by 2025. In markets worldwide, Greener Stores energy and water savings and waste diversion help advance the company’s goal to reduce carbon emissions, water usage, and landfill waste by 50% by 2030.

“Our big vision for the future is for every Starbucks store worldwide to be more sustainable. That’s why I’m excited to see the continued growth of Greener Stores globally, driven by the passion of our partners,” Michael Kobori , Starbucks’ chief sustainability officer, said in a press release. “Starbucks’ environmental promise comes to life through our baristas’ daily actions, which help define a Greener Store, our innovative shift toward reusable cups, and our partnership with coffee farmers on sustainable growing practices — it’s all part of our commitment to give more than we take from the planet.”
