CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who remains outstanding after a stabbing that left a man dead in his apartment in Chula Vista Friday night.

A press release from the Chula Vista Police Department said officers responded to calls of a possible stabbing at the Terra Vista apartments in Otay Ranch just after 8 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 49-year-old unresponsive man with multiple stab wounds in his apartment at 1441 Santa Lucia Road, where he was residing.

Officers provided life-saving measures for the man until medics arrived and took over, according to the release. The identity of the man has not been released at this time.

Officers spoke with witnesses who claimed that the suspect, who was wearing a mask, broke into the victim's apartment and stabbed him. Descriptions of the suspect vary, but he is believed to have been wearing a dark hoodie and dark shorts. His age is unknown, and he may have fled on a motorized scooter with blue wheels, according to the press release.

While investigators are working to confirm this information, as well as additional suspect information, CVPD is urging anyone with information to contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or submit tips anonymously online or through the P3tips mobile application.
