Jason Billingsley, the suspect who was charged with the murder of a Baltimore tech CEO, Pava LaPere, was sentenced on Aug. 30 after pleading guilty to LaPere’s murder. In addition to pleading guilty on that charge, Billingsley also pleaded guilty on Oct. 26 to two additional counts of attempted murder related to a rape, attempted murder, and arson which occurred days before the 2023 murder of LaPere.
Family of missing Baltimore man holds vigil two years after disappearance
BALTIMORE -- Two years after his disappearance, the family of Darryl Wiggins II continues their search for answers. Wiggins, 33, vanished on Sept. 2, 2022, following a dispute with his landlord in Northeast Baltimore. His family held a vigil Saturday at Belmont Park in Parkville to mark the painful anniversary. Diana Baines, Wiggins' mother, expressed the family's ongoing anguish. "It's been really two long, hard years without him, without any word of what might have happened," Baines said. Sappe slashes program record as cross country competes in Baltimore Metro Meet
BALTIMORE, Md. - The men's cross country team opened its season by placing 5th at the Baltimore Metro Meet, hosted by Goucher. Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) led the Blazers with a record-breaking time of 16:31.18 on the 5,000-meter course, finishing 5th overall. He slashed the previous program record by 25 seconds. Alex Seskar (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) ran 17:11.47 to finish 10th overall. Seskar's performance earned him another spot in the record books, finishing 3rd in program history.
