Developers secure second extension in bid to reclaim Tri-County Mall
The Texas-based developers who acquired Tri-County Mall only to see it lapse back into the hands of the lender now have until July 1 to reclaim it.<\p> MarketSpace Capital LLC and Park Harbor Capital LLC have paid $400,000 since June 2 to keep alive their dream of redeveloping Tri-County Mall into a $1.3 billion mixed-use development. <\p>
Shuttered downtown event space purchased for $2.2M
The Scottish Rite Masons will relocate to another building downtown, opening up a tantalizing development opportunity in a closely watched part of Cincinnati’s urban core. <\p> Valley of Cincinnati, the local branch of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, closed June 4 on the purchase of 812 Race St. The building is the former longtime home of the Phoenix event center, which closed in December of last year. <\p>
Pennsylvania brewery to open second Cincinnati-area location
A Pennsylvania-based franchise brewpub company is opening a second location in the Cincinnati area this summer.<\p> West Chester Township native Sarah Lister, a former probation officer, is opening Voodoo Brewing on her home turf June 27. The 7,500-square-foot restaurant is located at 9456 Waterfront Drive in the former Mitchell’s Fish Market space.<\p>

Most expensive Cincinnati home sales roar back in May: PHOTOS
After dipping in April, sales at the top of the Greater Cincinnati housing market came back strong in May.<\p> The average sale price for the top 10 home sales last month rose nearly 31% compared to April to just under $2.4 million. Last month’s average also was up more than 28% compared to the same month a year ago, when the average sale price was $1.86 million.<\p>
UC changes course on historic block lease at troubled building
The University of Cincinnati has reversed course on a block lease and management agreement at the Deacon, an off-campus apartment complex beset by maintenance issues. <\p> UC’s board of trustees in February approved $88.4 million for a five-year lease with a two-year option that would have allocated all of the building’s 1,029 beds to UC students. <\p>
Cincinnati industrial firm inks third acquisition of 2024
A fast-growing Cincinnati company continues its expansion with its third acquisition of 2024. <\p> Madisonville-based Thermal Technology Distribution Solutions announced its acquisition of Mt. Airy, Md.-based Thermal Devices on June 17, according to a news release.<\p>
Startup lands funding, partnership with region’s largest homebuilder
A first-time Greater Cincinnati founder has raised nearly $2 million in funding for his new venture while inking a deal with the region’s largest homebuilder to kickstart the business.<\p> Builder Backed, a Covington-based tech startup led by CEO and co-founder Paul Koop, raised a $1.99 million seed round in May led by local angel investors.<\p>
GE Aerospace to sell business arm for $429M
GE Aerospace will sell its licensing business to San Fransisco-based Dolby Laboratories in a $429 million all-cash deal.<\p> Dolby announced in a media release it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire GE Licensing, which owns, maintains and licenses intellectual property GE Aerospace, formerly General Electric, has acquired over time, primarily in the consumer digital media and electronics sectors.<\p>
Ed Sheppard, owner of Blind Lemon Mount Adams, dies
Edwin "Ed" Sheppard, whose Mount Adams establishment the Blind Lemon became a fixture in the neighborhood that was once the entertainment destination in Cincinnati, has died. <\p> He was 80 years old.<\p>
Iconic Tri-State family destination to close after 16 years
A well-known regional family destination has announced it will be closing its doors for good early next year.<\p> Entertrainment Junction, located at 7379 Squire Court in West Chester Township, will shut down all operations in January 2025, according to owner and founder Don Oeters. A specific date has not been determined. <\p>
Cincinnati banking giant continues California expansion
Fifth Third Bank, the largest locally based bank in Cincinnati and the ninth-largest consumer bank in the U.S., has expanded its presence in California with a new commercial banking office in Bakersfield, marking the sixth location for Fifth Third (Nasdaq: FITB) in the state. <\p> The Bakersfield office serves the California communities of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced and Tulare counties. <\p>

Dirt is moving on the future site of a West Side multifamily development catering to a critical segment of the housing market.<\p> Developer Urban Sites and Episcopal Retirement Services Affordable Living broke ground this spring on Pedretti Place at 587 Pedretti Ave. in Delhi Township. <\p>
Cincinnati sports tech startup nets $2.4M amid pilots with Reds, FCC
Cincinnati founder Joshua Reid is a big believer in timing. His newest company, a pivot from the venture-backed startup he first launched four years ago, is starting to make a big splash in the sports world – landing pilots with two of Cincinnati’s professional sports teams – and now the idea is getting a big boost from a series of Ohio investors at arguably its most critical stage.<\p> LunchTable, which looks to revolutionize fan engagement, has raised $2.4 million in seed funding led by Cleveland’s JumpStart Ventures, with participation from Cincinnati’s Cintrifuse Capital, Pittsburgh’s Black Tech Nation Ventures, Houston-based South Loop Ventures, Ohio Gateway Tech Fund, San Francisco’s Kobol Fund and angel investors.<\p>
Popular online clothing store opens first brick-and-mortar in OTR
A recent Miami University graduate has opened the first brick-and-mortar version of her popular online clothing store.<\p> Urban Luxe is located in a 660-square-foot space at 1515 Vine St. in Over-the-Rhine, neighboring Cinema OTR, part of the $51 million Willkommen mixed-use development from Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC).<\p>
