Beau Menefee to begin second stint as Newport Wildcats girls basketball coach

Newport High School has announced that former girls basketball coach Beau Menefee is returning to the same position.

"I'm excited to come back," Menefee said. "We've got a younger group coming in, so we're eager to start building."

From 2020 to 2023, he guided the Wildcats to a 37-31 record. He is the only Newport coach in the last 25 years to own a winning record. He took one year off to coach his son's AAU team, but said he was able to return to Newport now that his son is in middle school.

Prior to his first stint with the Wildcats, Menefee coached at Aiken, guided Campbell County to a 10th Region title in 2016, and was named the 10th Region Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2018.

"Coach Menefee brings a ton of experience, success and familiarity to our program. We conducted several interviews and Coach Menefee stood out to us, and we are confident that he will be successful at Newport High School," athletic director Kevin Reinhardt said.

Menefee takes over for Marcus Harris, who spent one season in Newport before filling Boone County's girls basketball coaching vacancy.
