The University of Cincinnati men's basketball program will host its second-annual Tip-Off Dinner, presented by the Herche Family Foundation Inc., on Tuesday, Oct. 1 inside Fifth Third Arena from 6 to 8 p.m. This year's event will feature Hall of Fame Broadcaster Marty Brennaman as master of ceremonies and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Roy Williams as the featured speaker.

Williams won three national championships at North Carolina and went to two other Final Fours. At Kansas, he led the Jayhawks to a pair of national runner-up finishes.

Mentor of UC Bearcats coach Wes Miller to speak

While at his alma mater in Chapel Hill, Williams coached current Cincinnati Bearcats coach Wes Miller, winning the first of his three NCAA titles in 2005. He also won in 2009 and 2017. Williams retired in 2021 with a 903-264 overall coaching record and a 2007 induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Williams has visited the UC campus and attended some of Miller's games.

"As a player at North Carolina he came closer to reaching his full potential than any player I've ever coached," Williams said upon Miller's hiring. "His energy, his determination, his intelligence, and his care for young people convinces me that he will continue at that level. I am so happy for him and the University of Cincinnati basketball program."

Like Williams and Miller, former Reds announcer Marty Brennaman graduated from North Carolina.

What comes with an inside look at UC Bearcats basketball?

Attendees will receive an inside look at the upcoming season, visit with current and former players and an opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind silent auction items. The evening will be highlighted by a fireside chat between Miller and Williams, his former coach at North Carolina. The chat will feature insight into the 2024-25 Bearcats, the college basketball landscape, and certainly some insight into Miller's time as a player.
