To play on varsity as a freshman in any sport is a notable accomplishment. To play and play well enough to record robust stats or earn all-conference honors is extremely impressive. In Greater Cincinnati last year, only a select few players accomplished those feats.
With the soccer season around the area having already started, here are the top 10 sophomore soccer players, both girls and boys, in Cincinnati going into the 2024 season.
Girls
10. Lou Guidugli ‒ F, Seton
Guidugli was a main contributor for Seton in 2023 as the Saints made a run to the Division I state semifinals. She had nine goals and seven assists in 17 games.
9. Jaklyn Wynn ‒ F, Talawanda
Wynn earned first-team All-Southwest Ohio Conference honors with six goals in four games in 2023.
8. Macy Yelton ‒ F, Beechwood
Yelton led Beechwood in goals (10) and points (25) in 21 games last season.
7. Zoey Sandker ‒ F/M, Bethel-Tate
Sandker made the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference first team as a freshman, finishing fourth in the conference for points (43) and goals (18).
6. Averie Layman ‒ D/F, Batavia
Layman made an impact all around the field for Batavia in her first-team All-SBAAC freshman season. She scored ten goals and chipped in two assists in nine games.
5. Allyvia Canham ‒ D, Mason
Canham and her twin sister Allyson were top contributors for Mason last year as the Comets finished second in the Greater Miami Conference. Allyvia earned All-GMC second-team honors as a major part of the Mason backline that allowed just seven goals all season.
4. Allyson Canham ‒ M, Mason
Canham was first-team All-GMC as a freshman last season, recording five goals and two assists in 18 games for the Comets.
3. Allie McCauley ‒ D, Indian Hill
McCauley was first team All Cincinnati Hills League as a freshman, anchoring Indian Hill's backline. She also contributed three goals and four assists.
2. Addy Zawaly ‒ F, Mariemont
Zawaly earned first-team All-CHL honors as a freshman, scoring 13 goals and adding 13 assists in 14 games. Mariemont finished fifth in the CHL in 2023 but came on strong at the end of the season winning three playoff games with the help of Zawaly.
1. Kendall Hanlon ‒ F/M, Western Brown
Hanlon was first-team All-Conference as a freshman, leading the SBAAC in points and goals. She scored 24 goals and had 12 assists in just 14 games, helping the Broncos to a second-place finish in the SBAAC American division.

Settipalli helped Batavia to a second-place finish in the SBAAC with six goals and three assists in eight games.
9. Chase McCarthy ‒ M, Ryle
McCarthy only played six games on varsity for Ryle last year, but in those games, he scored four goals and notched two assists.
8. Caden Lewis ‒ GK, Deer Park
Deer Park didn't have a great season, but Caden Lewis made the All-CHL second team as a goalkeeper. He finished with a .800 save percentage and managed five shutouts.
7. Charlie Gehringer ‒ F, Milford
Gehringer was one of the main offensive producers for Milford as a freshman, netting six goals and two assists in seven games. That was good enough to earn him second-team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference recognition.
6. Owen Kammerer ‒ M/F, Sycamore
Kammerer was a top facilitator on a strong Sycamore team last year. He finished with six assists and two goals, good enough for second-team All-GMC honors.
5. Noah Lockhart ‒ D, Clark Montessori
Lockhart scored four goals and added two assists as a freshman, earning him second-team All-Miami Valley Conference honors.
4. Colton Waldman ‒ F, New Richmond
Waldman grabbed first-team all-conference honors in the SBAAC by leading New Richmond with eight goals and 16 points in 12 games.
3. Ben Angelica ‒ F, Wilmington
Angelica led the SBAAC in assists with 13 in 2023, and he also added 12 goals, helping the Hurricane to a first-place finish in the SBAAC American division.
2. Brayden Strong ‒ D, Wyoming
Strong won first-team All-CHL honors as a freshman, anchoring a Wyoming back line that allowed more than two goals just once last season.
1. Drew Adams ‒ M/F, CHCA
Adams finished fifth in the MVC in goals (14) and sixth in points (34) as a freshman, both tops on the Eagles. He won first-team All-Conference honors.
