Temperatures are going up. Weather service warns of hot, humid conditions

Weather this week will bring heat, heat and more heat.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington for Tuesday through Sunday, when the combination of heat and humidity will bring heat index values in the 95- to 100-degree range.

The heat will settle in Monday with a high of 95 and a low of 71 at night, then rise to a high of 97 on Tuesday and Wednesday. A slight chance of thunderstorms is expected Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

The weather service recommends staying indoors, wearing loose clothing and staying hydrated during the rising temperatures. Checking on people who may be at higher risk like the elderly, children and pets is also imperative.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71 and light southwest wind.

Tuesday night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m. and after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday : A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch and higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday : Mostly sunny, with a high near 96.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 86.
