    Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Sept. 6

    In a vote that ended Sept. 6, Cincinnati.com readers selected the next 2024-2025 Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Sept. 1.

    Here are this week's winners.

    Ohio football team: La Salle – The Lancers beat Northmont 27-6 to start 2-0 as the team looks for its first winning season since 2021.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team: Highlands – The Bluebirds sent Covington Catholic to 0-2 in the rivalry game with a 32-22 comeback win.

    Boys fall team: Covington Catholic soccer – The Colonels topped Beechwood 3-1 on Aug. 27 and shut out Cooper 2-0 on Aug. 29.

    Girls fall team: Conner soccer – The Lady Cougars shut out Bishop Brossart, St. Henry and Boone County and haven’t allowed a goal in nine matches.

    Ohio boys cross-country runner: Cameron Bettinger, Walnut Hills – The senior took third place at Loveland with a time of 16:31.4.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys cross-country runner: Mark Antrobus, Villa Madonna – He took third place at Ryle in 17:06.07.

    Ohio girls cross-country runner: Delaney Cilley, Loveland – She completed the Tigers’ sweep of the individual titles at their home meet win in 19:07.6.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls cross-country runner: Ryan Bennett, Villa Madonna – The eighth-grader took ninth place at Ryle in 20:53.21.

    Boys golfer: Trenton Wilson, Boone County – Wilson was the medalist in both of Boone County’s matches, getting the low score against Simon Kenton and Calvary Christian.

    Girls golfer: Kylie Jones, West Clermont – The freshman was a medalist against Princeton after shooting a career-best 47 at Friendly Meadows.

    Ohio big-school football: Maddox Arnold, Elder - He came through with two rushing scores in the second half, including the game’s final score with 7:30 left in the fourth. He had nine tackles on defense, helping limit West Catholic (Michigan) to 178 yards of offense in a 20-13 Elder win.

    Ohio small-school football: Xavier Ison, Batavia - The junior running back had 119 yards receiving, 75 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in a 52-29 win over Reading. He also had two long kickoff returns that were key in setting up the offense.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: Louie Collopy, Newport Central Catholic – He caught two passes for 57 yards and a touchdown and registered an interception as the Thoroughbreds shut out Walton-Verona.

    Ohio big-school boys soccer: Brody Sucher, Kings – The junior had nine saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Anderson.

    Ohio small-school boys soccer: Andrew Cox, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy – The senior had two goals in a 4-0 win over Williamsburg.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys soccer: Clark Peterson, Conner – He had a goal in each of the team’s two wins last week, a 5-1 win over Simon Kenton and a 2-1 win over defending Ninth Region champion Ryle.

    Ohio big-school girls soccer: Kylie Costa, St. Ursula – The senior had two goals and an assist in a 6-1 win over Mercy McAuley.

    Ohio small-school girls soccer: Ayla Jodrey, Bethel-Tate – The junior had all three goals in a 3-0 win over Felicity-Franklin that kept the Tigers unbeaten at 5-0.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls soccer: Aubree Colston, Calvary Christian – She had three goals and an assist in a 4-3 win over Lexington (Tennessee)

    Girls tennis: Josie Fitzpatrick, Ursuline – The freshman has begun the year 5-1 in third singles, including a 6-0 win last week against Turpin.

    Ohio big-school girls volleyball: Ava Long, Lebanon – She set the school record for kills in a single match in a win over Little Miami. Her final stat line listed 31 kills, 22 digs, an ace and an assist, then followed it up with 27 kills, 12 digs and four aces in a win over West Clermont.

    Ohio small-school girls volleyball: Mia Kantz, Taylor – In a 2-0 week for the Yellowjackets, the senior totaled 18 kills, 18 digs, seven assists and four aces.

    Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls volleyball: Madison Wolf, Newport Central Catholic – Her career-high 13 kills helped the Thoroughbreds beat Holy Cross in the All “A” Classic.

    Water polo: Jesse Paley, Mason – The senior led the Comets to a strong road win over Walnut Hills, leading the team in steals (7) and assists (6). She finished second on the team in goals with five.
