    Tropical Storm Francine expected to become hurricane: Track path, impact

    Tropical Storm Francine, formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, is expected to grow to a Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds by Wednesday afternoon as it approaches landfall along the Louisiana coast .

    Will remnants from Tropical Storm Francine impact Ohio? Here's what we know.

    Track Tropical Storm Francine

    Tropical Storm Francine formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, USA TODAY reports . The storm is slated to grow to a Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds by Wednesday afternoon as it approaches landfall along the Louisiana coast .

    According to the National Hurricane Center, Francine is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the coast of northeast Mexico, the lower and upper Texas coasts, southern Louisiana and southern Mississippi by Thursday morning. Considerable flash flooding, life-threatening storm surges and other dangerous conditions may also occur in these areas.

    Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared a state of emergency Monday . Storm watches and warnings are also in effect along the Gulf Coast from High Island, Texas, to the Mississippi-Alabama border.

    Will Tropical Storm Francine impact Ohio?

    According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington , remnants from Tropical Storm Francine may bring a chance of showers to the Ohio Valley region later in the week.

    An increase in cloud coverage is forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday. An increase in precipitation chances will occur Thursday night into Friday morning, mainly in the southwest zones of our coverage area. A chance of showers will continue throughout the weekend into the beginning of next week, but precipitation to the north and east will be limited, per the NWS.

    Thursday's highs will range from 85 to 90 but will cool by Friday to the mid-70s to lower 80s due to cloudy conditions and the threat of rain.

    How likely is Francine's arrival in Cincinnati?

    According to USA TODAY's storm tracker's cone , Cincinnati is not currently in the projected path of Francine, but remnants from the tropical storm are still slated to impact the area later this week.

    When is the Atlantic hurricane season?

    The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.

    The season's peak is Sept. 10, and the most activity happens from mid-August to mid-October, according to the Hurricane Center.
