Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene's sim game pushed back to Tuesday for scheduling reasons

MINNEAPOLIS – Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene had his final simulated-game, live batting practice session before possible game action moved back to Tuesday because of scheduling issues this weekend.

After faring well in Tuesday's live BP in St. Louis, Greene's next session would have landed on Sunday, but the early game schedule Sunday prompted the Reds to move it up to Saturday – before they reconsidered and pushed it back rather than accelerate the timeline, Manager David Bell said.

Because of the team's scheduled off day on Monday, that means Tuesday for what's scheduled as a two-inning simulation (roughly 50 pitches).

The timing is significant for Greene because his next action is expected to be in a start for the Reds, barring a setback.

That now is expected to come five days later, in Sunday's final home game of the season, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, on a strict pitch count that figures to limit him to no more than three or four innings.

He would then be on track to open the final series of the season, in Chicago the following Friday.

Greene has been on the IL since experiencing elbow soreness after his Aug. 13 start prompted an MRI and multiple medical opinions. A first-time All-Star this season, Greene was 9-4 with a 2.83 ERA and pitching his way into the Cy Young conversation at the time.
