Dave Lapham: NFL admits Mike Gesicki's touchdown shouldn't have been overturned

    By Dave Clark, Cincinnati Enquirer,

Dave Lapham, longtime color analyst for the Cincinnati Bengals ' radio broadcasts, told Kirk Herbstreit during the " In the Trenches with Dave Lapham " podcast that Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki's attempt to catch a 15-yard pass by quarterback Joe Burrow in the corner of the end zone during the second quarter of last Sunday's NFL Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots should have been ruled a catch and touchdown, according to the league itself.

The ruling on the field of a catch and score was overturned. Bengals tight end Tanner Hudson caught a Burrow pass just short of the end zone on the next play, but lost a fumble that the Pats recovered at the 1-yard line. It was a key turning point in the game.

With an extra point, the Bengals could have tied the game at 7-7.

"Gesicki, he goes airborne, 6-6 vs. 6-1. Gotta give credit to the DB, stayed after it trying to punch it out of there and all of that," Lapham said. "He goes to the ground and eventually loses control. They say no touchdown, they overrule it. But the league has come out today and said it was a touchdown. They should not have overruled that thing."

He caught it and touched the endzone. That is a TD.
