Vice president nominees Sen. JD Vance and Gov. Tim Walz will go head-to-head on Tuesday night in their first—and likely only—vice-presidential debate.

CBS will host the Oct. 1 debate in New York City. Here's what you need to know.

What time is the JD Vance-Tim Walz VP debate on Tuesday?

The debate is slated to begin at 9 p.m. ET, according to CBS News.

The debate will be broadcast on CBS and livestreamed on all platforms where CBS News 24/7 and Paramount+ are available. The debate will also be made available to simulcast, CBS announced.

You can also stream the VP debate through the USA TODAY feed:

What day is the vice-presidential debate?

The debate is scheduled for the evening of Oct. 1.

Where will the vice-presidential debate be held?

The debate will be held in New York City at the CBS Broadcast Center.

Who are the moderators for the Walz-Vance debate?

The debate will be moderated by Norah O'Donnell, "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor, along with CBS News foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, who also serves as a moderator for the network's program "Face the Nation."

How long is the Walz-Vance debate?

The debate is expected to last 90 minutes, starting at 9 p.m. ET. with two breaks.

What are the rules of the Vance-Walz vice-presidential debate?

Unlike the Harris-Trump debate that took place weeks ago, the microphones of JD Vance and Tim Walz will remain turned on throughout, but CBS still reserves the right to mute either candidates' microphones during the VP debate. As part of the debate rules outlined by CBS, there will be no live audience in the studio, nor will there be any opening statements from Vance and Walz.

Each candidate will have two minutes to answer a question when asked, and the other candidate will have two minutes to respond, along with one minute for rebuttals. The microphones will be hot throughout the debate, and Vance and Walz will be standing behind podiums, breaking from the historically seated VP candidates, USA TODAY reports.

Candidates will not receive any questions or topics in advance and will have the opportunity to make their two-minute closing statements. Campaign staff are not allowed to interact with Walz and Vance during breaks.
