Terry Francona said Pete Rose, his Expos teammate and Reds manager, is Hall of Famer

Terry Francona, the Reds' new manager, played for Cincinnati in 1987, when Pete Rose managed the Reds. And Rose and Francona were teammates with the Montreal Expos in 1984.

Author Keith O'Brien, who wrote the book " Charlie Hustle " about Rose, tweeted that Francona said in 2022 that the Baseball Writers' Association of America should vote Rose and others into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown if they feel they're worthy based on achievements on the field, and the Hall should include details of their choices on their plaques.

"I know what happened," Francona said of Rose, per O'Brien. "And it has certainly cost Pete dearly . If Pete's not a Hall of Famer as a player, there isn't one. … Let the fans come to their own conclusions."

O'Brien added that Francona said he believes the fans lose when the best players aren't enshrined in Cooperstown, and fans should be able to debate, and learn from Rose's mistakes.
