Documents: Son of WCPO meteorologist Steve Raleigh given own recognizance bond

As the 34-year-old son of WCPO meteorologist Steve Raleigh awaits trial in connection with the assault of an elderly couple in the Montgomery Inn Boathouse parking lot, he will remain out of jail without paying bail, court documents show.

On Tuesday, five days after Kyle Raleigh was indicted on felonious assault and aggravated assault charges, a Hamilton County magistrate signed an entry for an own recognizance bond for Raleigh.

Raleigh, who lives in Franklin, Indiana, has no criminal record, his attorneys, Scott Croswell and Merlyn Shiverdecker, said in court documents.

Raleigh's attorneys also noted that he has cooperated in the investigation and willingly testified in front of the grand jury that issued felony charges against him.

The special prosecutor who is now handling the case, Clermont County Assistant Prosecutor David Gast, agreed to the own recognizance bond, documents say.

The incident happened on June 22 after a minor crash in the restaurant's parking lot. An SUV driven by Kyle Raleigh's brother failed to yield to oncoming traffic, according to a Cincinnati police crash report, and struck a pickup driven by 79-year-old Doug Morrow. Morrow and his wife were there to pick up their son, Troy, a Boathouse employee who had cut his thumb at work.

The Morrows have said Kyle Raleigh got angry with them after Troy Morrow made a comment about the SUV's speed. The family said Steve Raleigh came out of the restaurant and told Morrow's father not to call police about the crash – which he did anyway.

The family said Kyle Raleigh punched Troy Morrow and slammed him to the pavement. Then, according to the Morrows' attorney Konrad Kircher, Kyle Raleigh attacked Troy's parents. Both suffered concussions, Kircher has said.

Troy Morrow has been charged with menacing, a low-level misdemeanor.

A scheduling hearing in Kyle Raleigh's case is set for Oct. 16 in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
