So much for the farewell tour . McDonald's is bringing back the famous McRib sandwich.

For now, only for restaurants in the United Kingdom have the sandwich on the menu, but U.S. fans may not have to wait too long, as the sandwich will likely return to local McDonald's locations before the end of this year.

The McRib sandwich, which consists of seasoned boneless pork slathered in BBQ sauce with onions and pickles, made a comeback this week for a limited time in the UK. Since first debuting in 1981, the McRib has since repeatedly appeared and disappeared from the menu.

If Joe Erlinger, the president of McDonald's U.S., is any indication, the McRib is primed for a comeback. Over the summer, Erlinger told the Today Show that the sandwich will make a resurgence "later this year."

The sandwich has already been confirmed in Illinois for a November return. Last year, McDonald's locations across Ohio also brought back the McRib around mid-November, so it's possible that the iconic sandwich could make its way to a McDonald's near you as soon as next month.

In the meantime, fans can keep an eye on the McRib's whereabouts by using the McRib Locator , which tracks McRib sightings across the globe. In the meantime, a the limited-time chicken Big Mac can tide you over until the beloved barbecue sandwich makes a comeback.
