IUC Schedules Public Hearing On Black Hills Energy’s Request For Natural Gas Rate Increases
The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) has scheduled a public hearing for later this year to discuss Black Hills Energy’s proposed natural gas rate increase. The hearing will be held in the IUC’s Hearing Room on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at 1375 E. Court Ave. in Des Moines. Black Hills Energy filed an application on May 1 seeking approval to revise its rates to increase its annual revenues. This request is being reviewed as required by state law and the IUC’s administrative rules. The hearing will include the presentation of evidence and cross-examination of witnesses. Public comments can be submitted online, via email to customer@iuc.iowa.gov, or by mail using the address included below. Black Hills Energy serves 1.3 million customers in eight Midwest states, including natural gas services in the listening area.

Georgia Man Taken Into Custody After A High-Speed Chase Through Carroll County On Highway 141 Tuesday Evening
A Georgia man was taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement on Highway 141 yesterday (Tuesday) evening. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:57 p.m., a Guthrie County Sheriff Deputy clocked a 2020 Toyota Camry, operated by 58-year-old Paul Bolin of Athens, GA, at 83 miles per hour (mph) in western Guthrie County. Bolin passed the fully marked squad car and continued westbound on Highway 141 at a high rate of speed. The deputy began pursuing the Bolin vehicle, reaching speeds of 97 mph. The chase continued for roughly ten minutes, with Bolin driving through the stop sign located at the Highway 71 and 141 intersection, before a successful deployment of stop sticks by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office around Falcon Avenue ended the pursuit. When approached by law enforcement, Bolin identified himself as “God,” and has a .22 caliber pistol in the center console. A criminal history search reported that Bolin has no active no warrants and was not a felony but was disqualified from possessing a firearm. Bolin is charged with control of a firearm by a felon, and eluding both class D felonies, as well as speeding and failure to obey a stop sign. Bolin remains in custody at the Guthrie County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. The Iowa State Patrol and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the pursuit.

BELLE PLAINE, Iowa (KCRG) - Inside Drahos Shoe Store, on Main Street in Belle Plaine, lives generations of knowledge. “My grandfather was a Shoemaker in Bohemia. In 1904, he immigrated to the US. He was 17 years old. He had $22.60 in his pocket,” says Dan Drahos, the current owner and operator of Drahos Shoe Store. Don’s grandfather used those talents to start up a shoe repair business in Belle Plaine during the Great Depression, and eventually passed the business along to his son.
