    Long Lake Rowing has strong showing in Ohio

    The Annual Midwest Junior Rowing Championship Regatta was held on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19 on Lake Harsha approximately 40 minutes east of Cincinnati, Ohio.

    Twenty-four races were held in the sculling format (two oars per rower) and sweeping format (one oar per rower) in boats holding one, two, four, or eight rowers. Categories included novice (first-year rowers), under 15/16 or 17 years old, and 1st or 2nd Varsity. Top finishers from the heats qualified for the finals and the top 4 finishers in the final round qualified for Nationals. The 2024 USRowing Youth National Championships will be held June 6-9 in Sarasota, Florida.

    The Long Lake Rowing Crew (LLRC) had a great showing in this regatta with all competing rowers qualifying for the finals in their events. Finalists included:

    • Sebastian Osle (Minnetonka 10th)

    • Koen Holwell (Orono 10th)

    • Emma Malecha (Wayzata 9th)

    • Raina Hartman (Rosevelt 12th)

    • Ava Illingworth (Wayzata 11th)

    • Kenzie Rector (Chanhassen 11th)

    • Averie Zealley (Westonka 12th)

    • Wyat Lorenz (Wayzata 10th)

    • Chris Burica (Wayzata 11th)

    • Lilianna Magnuson (Minnetonka 12th)

    • Nora Redding (Orono 12th)

    • Mia Caballero (STMA 10th)

    In addition, the following three crews qualified for the National Championships in Sarasota, FL.

    • Sebastian Osle (Under 17 Men’s 1x)

    • Lilianna Magnuson and Nora Redding (1st Varsity Women’s 2-)

    • Lilianna Magnuson, Nora Redding, Kenzie Rector and Averie Zealley (1st Varsity Women’s 4x)

    “I love seeing this team race. It’s a special group. They always show up for a challenge, they’re always there for each other, and they always find a way to exceed expectations. This weekend was a great showing and it’s just the beginning of what I know will be an exciting season.” said Coach Nicholas Miller.

    LLRC youth rowers represent several area high schools, including Benilde-St. Margaret, Breck, Minnetonka, Orono, Providence, Wayzata, Chanhassen, Prior Lake, Roosevelt, Lakeville South and Westonka. During the summer, collegiate rowers also participate, and the club has a vibrant master’s program that serves adults from across the Twin Cities Metro.
