Art Supply Thrift Store Indigo Hippo Launches Fundraiser as Future of Shop in Question

An art supply thrift store in Over-the-Rhine is asking the community for help to stay afloat.

Indigo Hippo, a creative reuse center and gallery on Main Street, launched an online fundraiser this week so it can continue its mission to make creative materials easily accessible for all. It says its fundraising goal is $40,000.

“Hippo Fam, the hard truth is that, like so many others, times have been tough for our little shop. We are hurting and need your help to continue being your beloved pay-what-you-can art supply store!” the shop wrote on social media.

Alongside offering pay-what-you-can art supplies, Indigo Hippo also offers artist opportunities and advocates for environmental sustainability. It says none of those efforts would be possible without its supporters over the years, but without additional financial assistance, it will have to make tough decisions about the future of the store.

“At Indigo Hippo, we believe that creativity should be accessible to everyone, and we will continue with that mission as long as possible. We invite you to join us in ensuring that Indigo Hippo can keep creativity accessible and champion sustainability far into the future!” wrote the store.
