OWN BLK CINCY, a two-day housing and equity symposium happening at the end of June, is hosting two workshops ahead of the event that will focus on how homeownership can help build generational wealth and reduce the wealth gap, particularly in minority communities.
The first workshop, Unlocking Your Home's Equity, will be held Thursday, June 13 at the Evanston Recreation Center (3204 Woodburn Ave., Evanston) from 6:30-8 p.m. Attendees will learn the ins and outs of home equity lines of credit and how to add more value to their homes. Lawyer Elizabeth Tye will also be there to discuss how to protect your assets and pass them along through generational gifting and establishing trusts.
The second workshop, on Thursday, June 20, will tackle how to make your credit work for you. Community partners Fifth Third Bank and Working in Neighborhoods will be there to share how to navigate and leverage your credit as you prepare to go through the home-buying process. That workshop will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., also at the Evanston Recreation Center.

The OWN BLK CINCY symposium, a collaboration between the City of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney and Hamilton County, will take place Friday-Saturday, June 28-29 at the Cintas Center (1624 Musketeer Drive, Evanston) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Friday will be a policy symposium addressing the disparities in minority homeownership, while Saturday will host a homeownership conference with workshops on topics like the home-buying process, hiring quality home maintenance professionals and how to invest and build wealth by leveraging the equity in your current home.
