BOONE COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — An Ohio man is due in court in connection with a highway crash that led to the death of a Kentucky teenager in July of 2023.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), 37-year-old Ricky Raider of Cincinnati was arrested on June 11 in connection with the death of 18-year-old Lauren Collins .

On July 16, 2023, Collins was traveling northbound on I-75 when a tire from another vehicle detached, crossed the median into southbound traffic, and struck her windshield, according to authorities. Collins was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

On July 22, 2023, Raider reportedly contacted police and said, “He lost a tire on the interstate over the past weekend but didn’t believe his tire had hit anyone.”

According to authorities, BCSO later obtained a recorded phone call between Raider and an inmate at the Bullit County Detention Center in which Raider admitted he was traveling north on I-75 at the time of the crash and that his tire “dismounted from his 1993 Ford F-250,” and that he also “knew that the collision likely resulted in someone being hurt or killed.”
