You might want to rethink your barbecue plans this Independence Day because showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, warmer air and humidity will filter into the area on Tuesday. Highs will range from the mid- to upper 80s north to near 90 along and south of the Ohio River.

Hot and humid conditions are expected on Wednesday, with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Some thunderstorms may be strong to severe with damaging winds being the primary severe weather threat, per a hazardous weather outlook. Heavy rainfall is also possible, which may result in localized flooding.

Higher dewpoints and warmer temperatures may lead to heat indices in the upper 90s to the lower 100s in the afternoon. The NWS states that a heat advisory may be needed at some point, especially for locations along and south of the Ohio River.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will persist on Thursday, the Fourth of July. Isolated strong to severe storms can not be ruled out. Damaging winds and localized flooding may continue. Highs will be in the 80s, with lows in the 60s.
