NightLight Series — a new movie-viewing experience — is coming to Charlotte, co-founder Patrick Cline tells Axios.

Why it matters: Traditional movie theaters are struggling to recover from pandemic closures.

What they're saying: "We really wanted to beef up the traditional outdoor movie night experience to make it feel like a mini festival," Cline says.

Zoom out: The company claims to be the nation's largest outdoor movie series and the only one for adults 21+.

    • NightLight currently operates in Columbus, Nashville, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Miami.

NightLight has dubbed their experience "social cinema."

    • Each event features local food trucks and restaurants, a curated drink menu, a DJ, lawn and card games, and designated photo ops in locations close to the city's skyline.

What to expect: Screenings include classics like "Top Gun," "Bring It On" and "Jurassic Park," but no new movies.

    • Advance tickets are listed for $11 in most cities.
    • A season pass includes access to every event, early entry and a vote on future movies.

What's next: Cline says the NightLight series will open in Charlotte in the next 12–18 months. The venus hasn't been chosen yet.

Zoom in: Outdoor movie events are popular in Charlotte. Crossroads Cinema , for example, is free every Thursday night at Camp North End.
