The historic Mount Airy estate built by Powell Crosley Jr., founder of WLW radio and former owner of the Cincinnati Reds, recently hit the market for $2.4 million.

Built in 1928, the nearly 20-acre estate's primary residence, Pinecroft, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Crosley, a renowned inventor, industrialist and pioneer in radio broadcasting , lived at the estate at 2366 Kipling Ave. until he died in 1961.

The more than 13,000-square-foot, Tudor Revival -style mansion and other buildings on the estate now serve as an event center benefitting the Cincinnati Preservation Association .

The association has owned the property since it was donated to the organization in 2011 by Mercy Health West .

The association "has decided that it is now time to pass on this stewardship to a new owner so our organization can fully concentrate on our mission,'' according to a statement posted on its website .

The property is being sold with architectural easements in place that "will guarantee the protection of this important 1928 Tudor Revival style property in perpetuity,'' the association stated.

The mansion maintains many of its original features, including stained-glass windows, moldings, fireplace mantels, even an antique desk in the library.

The preservation association also made several upgrades to the estate, including adding a commercial kitchen and modern restrooms to the mansion and completing a major landscape project to bring back the original landscape design.
