I met Matt Butler when I wrote about the Fourth Street Bridge in Northern Kentucky. And again when I wrote about ideas for expanding Cincinnati's streetcar system. And when I wrote about troubles at Cincinnati Red Bike. Oh also when I reported on plans for the Brent Spence Bridge.

When there's transportation news in Cincinnati, Butler seems to be involved, often in a central role.

So when Butler and his Devou Good Foundation began calling for changes in OKI – that's short for the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments – we asked for a sit-down to learn more about him and his foundation.

Turns out Butler's first career – selling bathtubs and other home decor items – paved the way for his current work. (Think: $$$.) When he and his wife sold that business, they put the proceeds into Devou Good.

Early on, the foundation focused on community projects in their Covington neighborhood. Over time, the group jumped into Cincinnati and Ohio transportation projects. With the OKI effort, it seeks changes that would impact an eight-county region. If you are a Cincinnati voter, you might see the results of that campaign on the fall ballot.

Read on to learn more about Butler, Devou and how they spend those bathtub profits.
