Lytle Tunnel closures on Thursday could impact your commute. What to know

Commutes heading south on Interstate 71 Thursday may be impacted by closures of the Lytle Tunnel that will make way for the filming of a new Warner Bros. movie.

Southbound lanes on I-71 at the Lytle Tunnel will close intermittently from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Closures will last up to 15 minutes. The frequency of the closures may vary, but only two 15-minute closures are anticipated during the two-hour window.

Cincinnati police will control the flow of traffic using a rolling roadblock.

Kathleen Fuller, a public information officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, previously told The Enquirer the department issued a permit to a Warner Bros. Studios production crew to close the tunnel so that they could shoot a scene for an upcoming film.

Fuller could not confirm which movie would be shot in Lytle Tunnel. However, "Superman: Legacy" has been filming in Ohio throughout June and July, and crews were even spotted filming at the Cincinnati Museum Center on Wednesday.

The Lytle Tunnel closures come as projects on other nearby infrastructure are already underway. The Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, known locally as the Big Mac Bridge, is undergoing a maintenance project for the next six months.

The project includes two phases that will require multiple lane closures one direction at a time, according Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's District 6.

Work began working on the northbound portion of the bridge on Monday and is expected to last 90 days. One northbound lane will stay closed for the entirety of that span. Most of the traffic impacts of the bridge repair project will be felt by overnight commuters, as double and triple lane closures could be active Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
