Butler County's 911 service has been restored and is functioning as normal after it was temporarily disrupted due to the Crowdstrike update outage, Sheriff Richard K. Jones said in a news release. No 911 calls went unanswered during the outage.

Previous reporting: Major airlines, media companies, banks, and telecommunication firms worldwide reported systems outages Friday were disrupting their operations.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a cloud-services-related outage impacted millions of Microsoft systems and devices. This outage has affected media companies, businesses, banks, airlines, and 911 centers worldwide, including Greater Cincinnati.

    Here's what to know.

Microsoft outage impacts CVG flights. Which flights are grounded?

The Federal Aviation Administration issued ground-stop orders for several major airlines, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines, amid the global tech outage. However, USA Today reports that it was not immediately clear whether the call to prevent flights from taking off was related to the Microsoft cloud outage.

The Washington state-based tech giant did not immediately return USA Today's emailed request for comment.

Due to the Microsoft outage, some flights have been delayed or paused at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The airport posted on X that it is "monitoring reports of system outages impacting flights." CVG advises travelers to check their airline's flight status before leaving for the airport.

The list of departures and arrivals from CVG that have been delayed or canceled has been steadily growing Friday morning. To monitor flight status from CVG, visit cvgairport.com .

    When will flights resume?

The FAA wrote on X that it is "closely monitoring technical issues impacting IT systems at US airlines" but has not stated when grounded flights would resume. The following US airports are currently closed for operations: ASE in Aspen, Colorado; BOS in Boston; LAS in Las Vegas; LGA in Queens, New York; MKE in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; STS in Santa Rosa, California; and STX in St. Croix, US Virgin Island.

Greater Cincinnati 911 centers impacted by Microsoft outage

FOX 19 reports that the global outage has also hit several 911 centers across the Tri-State area, with phones and some county computers going down around 2 a.m. Friday, dispatchers say. However, no serious problems have been reported.

The Middletown Police Department is also experiencing phone outages, including its 911 lines, the police department wrote on Facebook.

“If you need police or fire assistance, please call us at 513-727-3632. If you can’t get through, call Monroe Police at 513-539-9234 or Ohio State Highway Patrol at #677 and they will send the information to us.”

The Campell County 911 dispatch center said it's also experiencing disruptions to its 24/7 non-emergency lines, but its 911 lines are functioning properly, per a Facebook post .

Fox 19 adds that a Hamilton County dispatch supervisor says 911 calls in areas without service automatically roll over to them but did not say which counties this applied to for security reasons.

Microsoft outage affects Greater Cincinnati hospitals, banks and gas stations

Microsoft-based computer systems at Cincinnati Children’s in Avondale have also been affected by the worldwide technology outage, according to the hospital's website .

"Our teams are working hard to minimize disruption to patient care and system operations, and we are bringing systems back up as quickly as possible," the hospital wrote in a news release.

Patients who are scheduled for surgery or radiology appointments on Friday should arrive at their scheduled time, but delays are likely to occur. Families should plan to remain in the hospital longer than originally planned.

If you have questions about your surgery or procedure at Cincinnati Children's Burnet campus, call 513-636-4517. For questions about surgeries and procedures at the Liberty campus call 513-803-9820.

All other appointments scheduled before 10 a.m. Friday has been canceled, including specialty, primary care, therapy, and dental visits. The hospital will contact patients to reschedule.

Lab services locations are also closed until at least 10 a.m., but emergency and urgent care departments remain open.

UC Air Care medical helicopter service and Christ Hospital reported no issues overnight. Two front registers at Thornton’s gas station, located off Interstate 75 at Tylersville Road in West Chester Township, went down around 2 a.m. Friday, per Fox 19.

Trust Bank also appears to be experiencing service disruptions, according to bank member Sheri Bruce, who said she had trouble logging onto the banking website. US Bank ATMs and mobile banking app appear to be operating as usual.

When will the outage be fixed?

In a post on X, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said the outage was not a "security incident or cyberattack."

He said it was connected to a "defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts." He said the issue has been "identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed." But an estimated time of full restoration has not been announced.

USA Today's Kim Hjelmgaard and Fox 19's Jennifer Edwards Baker contributed to this report.
