Bengals don't sound like a team about to add a CB in free agency

The Cincinnati Bengals feel like a team that could be in the market for a cornerback in free agency as the start of training camp nears.

But even if the front office agrees, it certainly isn’t saying so publicly.

Monday, Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin met with the media and said the team is happy with the current cornerback room.

“I like what we’ve got there. We’ve got young guys that can run and cover who have a lot of upside to them. We’ve got some new guys working in there and it will be exciting to see how they do,” Tobin said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Do I feel like we have an immediate need for a veteran to make our team? No. Maybe if our numbers are down and we need some help at camp, but as we go we’ll determine that. I feel good about it. We’ve got a pretty good mix of veterans, guys coming into their own, and some young guys.”

Most conversations about the Bengals adding a corner pertained to depth. Former first-round safety Dax Hill is competing with DJ Turner on the boundary opposite Cam Taylor-Britt, while Mike Hilton will continue holding down the slot.

Depth beyond rookie Josh Newton seems a little thin, though, especially with DJ Ivey starting camp on the PUP.

As Tobin alludes to, though, this one could change pretty quickly if the roster takes another hit in the area.
