If you're looking for the best place to raise a family, then this Cincinnati suburb is the perfect choice.

Fortune Well, the health-focused subsidiary of Fortune Magazine, released its 2024 list of the 50 best places to live for families in the U.S. , and Mason took the No. 5 spot. Mason was the only Ohio city on the list, ranking above Franklin, Tennessee (No. 6) and below Ann Arbor, Michigan (No. 4).

Silver Spring, Maryland, ranked No. 1 overall.

Mason has a population of 36,581 residents and is the biggest city in Warren County, nicknamed Ohio's Largest Playground . According to the report , Mason has highly rated public schools with a 95% graduation rate, above-average nursing homes, single-family homes with a median sale price of $397,661, and a "thriving small-business community."

Mason also offers many career opportunities, as the suburb is home to the LensCrafters headquarters and the Procter & Gamble Mason Business Center.

But Mason isn't just great for business. The city offers many fun, family-friendly parks, from Great Wolf Lodge to Kings Island . Mason is also approximately 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, where you can watch the Reds play at Great American Ball Park or take a day trip to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden or the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Mason also offers affordable recreational programs at the Mason Municipal Aquatic Center and Mason Community Center, which features roughly 301 acres of developed parks.

To determine its list, Fortune Well evaluated over 2,000 cities, towns, suburbs, exurbs, villages, and townships with populations of 20,000 or more in several categories, including education, aging resources, general wellness, financial health, and livability.

The ranking then focused on families, especially those raising children while caring for aging parents.

Fortune built its list using data from Caring.com, CVS Health, Healthgrades, ShareCare, Witlytic, and Ineedana.com. It also used information from federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the U.S. Department of Education.
